Musical artist

**Joseph Parrish-James** [pəriʃ-dʒeɪmz] (born 1995[1] in [Bedfordshire](/source/Bedfordshire), England) is a British guitarist of the bands Albion and [Jethro Tull](/source/Jethro_Tull_(band)).[2]

## Early life and education

Parrish found his love for music at the age of three[3] and learned to play the guitar at the age of six. In his childhood, he listened to [Deep Purple](/source/Deep_Purple), [Steeleye Span](/source/Steeleye_Span), and later [Iron Maiden](/source/Iron_Maiden).[3] Joe studied composition and arrangement at the [London College of Music](/source/London_College_of_Music).[3]

## Career

After graduating, Parrish arranged and composed for classical ensembles (orchestra and string quartet). His biggest influences are [Vaughan Williams](/source/Ralph_Vaughan_Williams), [Warlock](/source/Peter_Warlock), [Dmitri Shostakovich](/source/Dmitri_Shostakovich) and [Igor Stravinsky](/source/Igor_Stravinsky).

Parrish joined [Jethro Tull](/source/Jethro_Tull_(band)) as their lead guitarist in 2019,[4][5] succeeding [Florian Opahle](/source/Florian_Opahle). He played on one track of *[The Zealot Gene](/source/The_Zealot_Gene)* (2022) and all tracks of *[RökFlöte](/source/R%C3%B6kFl%C3%B6te)* (2023).

Parrish is also the singer, guitarist, flute player and songwriter of his own folk rock band *Albion*.[6] In March 2024, he left Jethro Tull to focus on Albion.[7]

## Style and equipment

His first electric guitar at age 11 was a Yamaha Pacifica. Later, he switched to a John Petrucci 6 Musicman guitar.[8] He has also used a Schecter Diamond Series 7 String and Ibanez Parlour Acoustic. Amplifiers have included a Blackstar,[9] an ID:100 TVP, and a POD XT. In addition to guitar, he plays mandolin[10] and flute, and also sings.[11]
