# Joe Klink

**Joseph Charles Klink** (born February 3, 1962) is an American former professional [baseball](/source/Baseball) [pitcher](/source/Pitcher). He played in [Major League Baseball](/source/Major_League_Baseball) (MLB) from 1987 to 1996 for the [Minnesota Twins](/source/Minnesota_Twins), [Oakland Athletics](/source/Oakland_Athletics), [Florida Marlins](/source/Florida_Marlins), and [Seattle Mariners](/source/Seattle_Mariners).[1] Klink once went 90 consecutive games without allowing a [home run](/source/Home_run), the longest by a [left-handed](/source/Left-handed) pitcher since at least 1957 and possibly the longest such streak of all time.[citation needed]

Klink attended [St. Thomas University](/source/St._Thomas_University_(Florida)). In 1982, he played [collegiate summer baseball](/source/Collegiate_summer_baseball) with the [Harwich Mariners](/source/Harwich_Mariners) of the [Cape Cod Baseball League](/source/Cape_Cod_Baseball_League).[2] He was selected by the [New York Mets](/source/New_York_Mets) in the 36th round of the [1983 MLB draft](/source/1983_MLB_draft).[1]

New York traded him to Minnesota in January 1986 with [Billy Beane](/source/Billy_Beane) and [Bill Latham](/source/Bill_Latham_(baseball)) for [Tim Teufel](/source/Tim_Teufel) and Pat Crosby.[3] Klink made his major league debut in April 1987, playing in 12 games for the Twins before he was sent back to the minors in June.[4] Minnesota traded him to Oakland for a [player to be named later](/source/Player_to_be_named_later) in March 1988.[1] He led the [Southern League](/source/Southern_League_(1964%E2%80%93present)) with 26 saves in 1989.[4] Klink returned to the majors until 1990 and made his only postseason appearance that fall, walking [Hal Morris](/source/Hal_Morris) in Game 3 of the [World Series](/source/1990_World_Series).[1][5] After two seasons with the Athletics, Klink missed 1992 with an elbow injury. He signed a minor league contract with the expansion Marlins in January 1993 and tied with closer [Bryan Harvey](/source/Bryan_Harvey) for the team lead with 59 [pitching appearances](/source/Games_pitched) that season.[4] Florida released him ahead of the 1994 season. He returned to the majors in May 1996 with the Mariners.[1] He gave up a home run to [Michael Tucker](/source/Michael_Tucker_(baseball)) of the [Kansas City Royals](/source/Kansas_City_Royals) on May 10, his first MLB home run allowed since July 1991.[6]
