# Joe Gresko

**Joe Gresko** (born June 11, 1964) is an American [Democratic Party](/source/Democratic_Party_(United_States)) politician currently serving as a member of the [Connecticut House of Representatives](/source/Connecticut_House_of_Representatives) from the 121st district, which includes part of [Stratford](/source/Stratford,_Connecticut), since 2016.[1] Gresko was first elected in a 2016 [special election](/source/Special_election) to replace former representative [Terry Backer](/source/Terry_Backer) after previously being the spokesman for [Bridgeport](/source/Bridgeport,_Connecticut) mayor [Joe Ganim](/source/Joe_Ganim).[2] Gresko was re-elected in 2018 over Republican Robert Mitchell. And again in 2020, over [Republican](/source/Republican_Party_(United_States)) Ed Scinto.[3] Gresko currently serves as a member of the House Energy and Technology Committee, and co-chair of the Environment Committee.[1]

## Political positions

In 2025, Gresko introduced legislation to legalize [commercial rabbit slaughter](/source/Cuniculture) in Connecticut. The legislation was criticized by [animal rights](/source/Animal_rights) and [welfare](/source/Animal_welfare) activists who argued that slaughtering rabbits is inhumane.[4]
