**Joe Egender** (born 1976/77), is an American actor, producer, and screenwriter. He is best known for his collaborations with [The Butcher Brothers](/source/The_Butcher_Brothers), *[Holy Ghost People](/source/Holy_Ghost_People_(2013_film))*, and his television roles.

## Career

### Film

Egender has made several films with [The Butcher Brothers](/source/The_Butcher_Brothers) ([Mitchell Altieri](/source/Mitchell_Altieri) and [Phil Flores](/source/Phil_Flores)). Their first collaboration was *[Lurking in Suburbia](/source/Lurking_in_Suburbia)* (2004); Don R. Lewis of *[Film Threat](/source/Film_Threat)* wrote of Egender's starring performance, "He reminds me of a less whiny [Giovanni Ribisi](/source/Giovanni_Ribisi) and, mark my words, this performance will gain him some big roles."[2] Egender had a cameo in their next film, *[The Hamiltons](/source/The_Hamiltons)* (2006),[3] and a larger supporting role in *[The Violent Kind](/source/The_Violent_Kind)* (2010). Scott Beggs of [Film School Rejects](/source/Film_School_Rejects) called the performance "...a hell of a lot of fun... frenetic and interesting",[4] and Matt Glasby of *[Total Film](/source/Total_Film)* called it "gobsmacking overacting".[5] Egender produced, co-wrote, and co-starred in Altieri's *[Holy Ghost People](/source/Holy_Ghost_People_(2013_film))* (2013). Egender said that he enjoyed the greater control over the film, which heightened his performance.[6] Scott Weinberg of [Fearnet](/source/Fearnet) wrote that Egender "steals numerous scenes".[7] Besides his collaborations with Altieri and Flores, he also starred in *[Hunger](/source/Hunger_(2009_film))* (2009). In a negative review, Bill Gibron of [DVD Talk](/source/DVD_Talk) called Egender's character deeply annoying but possibly a good performance if that were the intent.[8] He had a supporting role in *[The Frankenstein Theory](/source/The_Frankenstein_Theory)* (2013). Describing Egender's performance, Truly Disturbing said Egender "makes a hairpin turn from being funny and kind of silly to being harrowing in an organic way".[9] Patrick Naugle of [DVD Verdict](/source/DVD_Verdict) called his character an out-of-place "supporting character in a Jim Carrey film."[10] In 2015, he co-starred in the horror-thriller film *[The Diabolical](/source/The_Diabolical)*[11] and starred in *[I Remember You](/source/I_Remember_You_(2015_film))*.[12]

### Television

On television, Egender has starred in the TV film *To My Future Assistant* (2013)[13] and was cast in a co-starring role in the miniseries *[Texas Rising](/source/Texas_Rising)* (2015).[14] He also had guest appearances on *[Alcatraz](/source/Alcatraz_(TV_series))* (2012)[15] and *[American Horror Story: Asylum](/source/American_Horror_Story:_Asylum)* (2012).[14] He was also in an episode of [*Hawaii Five-0*](/source/Hawaii_Five-0_(2010_TV_series)) (2016).[16] Egender is a co-creator of the 2019 [Netflix](/source/Netflix) [TV documentary](/source/TV_documentary) miniseries, [*Unnatural Selection*](/source/Unnatural_Selection_(TV_series)).[17]

### Theater

In 2008, he starred in the play *He Asked for It*, a gay-themed story about AIDS.[18] His performance brought best actor nominations from the [Ovation Awards](/source/Ovation_Awards)[19] and Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle.[20]

### Other work

In the video game *[Dead Rising 3](/source/Dead_Rising_3)*, Egender appears as Stitch.[21]
