He was a [Liberal](/source/Ontario_Liberal_Party) member of the [Legislative Assembly of Ontario](/source/Legislative_Assembly_of_Ontario) from 2007 to 2018 who represented the riding of [Ajax—Pickering](/source/Ajax%E2%80%94Pickering_(provincial_electoral_district)). ## Background Dickson was born and raised in [Ajax, Ontario](/source/Ajax,_Ontario).[2] He was the owner of a printing business, Dickson Printing Ltd.[3] Dickson was a recipient of the [Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal](/source/Queen_Elizabeth_II_Golden_Jubilee_Medal) and the [Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal](/source/Queen_Elizabeth_II_Diamond_Jubilee_Medal).[4][5] He supports 22 Ajax-Pickering area sports teams.[6] He lived in Ajax with his wife Donna. They have two adult children and five grandchildren.[7] He died April 7, 2022. ## Politics Dickson began his career and community involvement as a trustee of the local Catholic District School Board. Dickson was a councillor for the town of [Ajax, Ontario](/source/Ajax,_Ontario) from 1983 to 1990 and then from 1992 to 2006. He also served as a regional councillor for Durham. and also served as a [trustee](/source/Board_of_education) on the Ajax Catholic School Board.[3][8] Dickson ran for the Liberal Party in the [1995 election](/source/1995_Ontario_general_election) in the riding of [Durham West](/source/Durham_West_(provincial_electoral_district)) but lost to [Janet Ecker](/source/Janet_Ecker) by 15,258 votes.[9] In the [2007 provincial election](/source/2007_Ontario_general_election) he ran for the Liberals again in the candidate in the riding of [Ajax—Pickering](/source/Ajax%E2%80%94Pickering_(provincial_electoral_district)). He defeated [Progressive Conservative](/source/Progressive_Conservative_Party_of_Ontario) candidate [Kevin Ashe](/source/Kevin_Ashe) by 5,959 votes.[10] He was re-elected in [2011](/source/2011_Ontario_general_election)[11] and [2014](/source/2014_Ontario_general_election).[12] Dickson served as a deputy [government whip](/source/Whip_(politics)) from 2007 to 2011. In September 2013, he was appointed as [parliamentary assistant](/source/Parliamentary_assistant) to the [Minister of Citizenship and Immigration](/source/Ministry_of_Citizenship_and_Immigration) and he served in that capacity until the Legislature was dissolved May 2, 2014. In July 2014 he was appointed Parliamentary Assistant to the [Minister of Northern Development and Mines](/source/Ministry_of_Northern_Development_and_Mines). In the [2018 provincial election](/source/2018_Ontario_general_election) he ran in the redistributed riding of [Ajax](/source/Ajax_(provincial_electoral_district)). He came in third behind Progressive Conservative winner [Rod Phillips](/source/Rod_Phillips_(politician)) and runner-up [New Democrat](/source/Ontario_New_Democratic_Party) Monique Hughes.[13] ## References 1.
