He currently plays for [A.F.C. St Austell](/source/A.F.C._St_Austell) after leaving [Southern League](/source/Southern_Football_League) club [Truro City](/source/Truro_City_F.C.). ## Career Broad began his career as a trainee with [Plymouth Argyle](/source/Plymouth_Argyle_F.C.), turning professional in August 2000. He played pre-season games for [Weymouth](/source/Weymouth_F.C.) in 2001 and was linked with a [loan](/source/Loan_(sports)) move there,[2] but remained with Plymouth. He made an impressive league debut on 18 August 2001, as a substitute for [Sean Evers](/source/Sean_Evers) in a goalless draw away to [Hull City](/source/Hull_City_A.F.C.). First team chances were sparse at Home Park, so Broad was loaned to [Conference](/source/Football_Conference) side [Yeovil Town](/source/Yeovil_Town_F.C.) in November 2001 to gain some additional experience.[3] He returned after a month with Yeovil, and signed a 12-month extension to his Plymouth contract.[4] However, he struggled to establish himself and was allowed to join [Torquay United](/source/Torquay_United_F.C.) on a free transfer in September 2003.[5] He was mainly used as a substitute by Torquay manager [Leroy Rosenior](/source/Leroy_Rosenior) and was released at the end of the season.[6] He was linked with a move to Southern League [Tiverton Town](/source/Tiverton_Town_F.C.),[7] but in August 2004 he signed for [Walsall](/source/Walsall_F.C.).[8] He was given a two-year contract extension and Merson continued to speak highly of the midfielder. However, in September 2005, Broad joined [Conference North](/source/Conference_North) side [Redditch United](/source/Redditch_United_F.C.) on loan to gain more first team experience.[9] He returned to Walsall, but in November 2005 rejoined Redditch on loan until the end of the season.[10] [Paul Merson](/source/Paul_Merson) later decided that he was not part of his plans at Walsall and on 16 January 2006, Broad left to join [Truro City](/source/Truro_City_F.C.) helping the [Cornish](/source/Cornwall) side to promotion to the [Western League](/source/Western_Football_League) Division One in 2006, and promotion to the Premier Division a year later.
