Morgan was born in [Penicuik](/source/Penicuik), [Midlothian](/source/Midlothian). He began his football career with Edinburgh Emmett and then came to England to sign for [Birmingham](/source/Birmingham_City_F.C.) of the [First Division](/source/Football_League_First_Division) in August 1924.
