In 1972 he was part of the West German team which finished sixth in the [Olympic tournament](/source/Handball_at_the_1972_Summer_Olympics). He played for SSV Marienheide and [VfL Gummersbach](/source/VfL_Gummersbach). With Gummersbach he won the [German Championship](/source/Handball-Bundesliga) in 1967, 1969, 1973 and 1974. In 1967, 1970, 1971 and 1974 he also won the [European Cup](/source/EHF_Champions_League).
