**James William Short** (1909 – after 1935) was an English professional [footballer](/source/Association_football) who played as a [forward](/source/Forward_(association_football)) in the [Football League](/source/English_Football_League) for [Sheffield Wednesday](/source/Sheffield_Wednesday), [Brighton & Hove Albion](/source/Brighton_%26_Hove_Albion) and [Barrow](/source/Barrow_A.F.C.).[1] He also played [non-league football](/source/Non-league_football) for clubs including [Jarrow](/source/Jarrow_F.C.), [South Shields](/source/South_Shields_F.C._(1936)), [Walker Celtic](/source/Walker_Celtic_F.C.) and Middle Dock.[3]
