# Jimmy Scarratt

**James Scarratt** (1868–1933) was an English [footballer](/source/Association_football) who played on the [wing](/source/Midfielder) for [Burslem Port Vale](/source/Port_Vale_F.C.) in the early 1890s.

## Career

Scarratt played for Wellington St. George's before joining [Burslem Port Vale](/source/Port_Vale_F.C.) in the summer of 1891, soon becoming a regular in the [first XI](/source/First_XI).[1] On 19 September 1891, he walked off the [pitchat](/source/Football_pitch) the [Athletic Ground](/source/Athletic_Ground_(Cobridge)) in the second half of a 7–1 win over [Loughborough](/source/Loughborough_F.C.) in a [Midland League](/source/Midland_Football_League_(1889)) match.[1] He was a member of the side that won the Staffordshire Charity Cup in 1892.[1] He played 20 [Second Division](/source/Football_League_Second_Division) games in the [1892–93](/source/1892%E2%80%9393_Burslem_Port_Vale_F.C._season) season, in the club's first season in the [Football League](/source/English_Football_League).[1] He scored a goal in a 3–3 draw at [Burton Swifts](/source/Burton_Swifts_F.C.) on 18 March 1893.[1] He played 27 of the club's 28 league games in the [1893–94](/source/1893%E2%80%9394_Burslem_Port_Vale_F.C._season) season, and scored seven league goals.[1] He suffered a serious knee injury in a match on 17 November 1894, which kept him sidelined until March 1895.[1] This limited him to just 13 appearances in the [1894–95](/source/1894%E2%80%9395_Burslem_Port_Vale_F.C._season) season, scoring one goal in a 4–4 draw with [Newcastle United](/source/Newcastle_United_F.C.).[1] Upon his recovery he was unable to regain his place in the squad and was released in the summer.[1]
