== Career ==
Born in Philadelphia in 1926, Rowser learned to play piano and bass as a youth. He played with the [house band](/source/house_band) at Philadelphia's Blue Note club, accompanying touring musicians such as [Charlie Parker](/source/Charlie_Parker), [Sonny Clark](/source/Sonny_Clark), [Hank Mobley](/source/Hank_Mobley), [Kenny Dorham](/source/Kenny_Dorham), [Art Taylor](/source/Art_Taylor), [Cannonball Adderley](/source/Cannonball_Adderley), [Miles Davis](/source/Miles_Davis), [Billie Holiday](/source/Billie_Holiday), [J.J. Johnson](/source/J.J._Johnson), [Anita O'Day](/source/Anita_O'Day) and [Kai Winding](/source/Kai_Winding).

In the late 1950s, Rowser played with [Dinah Washington](/source/Dinah_Washington), [Maynard Ferguson](/source/Maynard_Ferguson), [Lee Morgan](/source/Lee_Morgan), and [Red Garland](/source/Red_Garland). He was active in New York in the early 1960s with [Junior Mance](/source/Junior_Mance), [Ray Bryant](/source/Ray_Bryant), [Herb Ellis](/source/Herb_Ellis), and [Illinois Jacquet](/source/Illinois_Jacquet), and toured internationally with [Benny Goodman](/source/Benny_Goodman) and [Friedrich Gulda](/source/Friedrich_Gulda) in 1963–1964. Later in the 1960s, Rowser worked with [Al Cohn](/source/Al_Cohn) and [Zoot Sims](/source/Zoot_Sims) and then with [Les McCann](/source/Les_McCann); he remained with McCann well into the 1970s. In the 1980s, Rowser played with Bryant once more and also with [Hilton Ruiz](/source/Hilton_Ruiz). 

Rowser returned to school in the 1980s, receiving a bachelor's and master's from [Lehman College](/source/Lehman_College), and then taught music in [New Jersey](/source/New_Jersey) in the 1990s.
