# Jimmy Kirkpatrick

**James Nodwell Kirkpatrick** was a Scottish professional [footballer](/source/Association_football) who played 40 games in the [English Football League](/source/English_Football_League) for [Plymouth Argyle](/source/Plymouth_Argyle_F.C.) in the 1920s. An [outside right](/source/Outside_right), he also played for Dumfries and [Torquay United](/source/Torquay_United_F.C.).[1]

## Career

Kirkpatrick was born in [Dumfries](/source/Dumfries), and played for hometown club, Dumfries F.C.,[1] one of the three clubs that merged in 1919 to form [Queen of the South](/source/Queen_of_the_South_F.C.).[2] He moved to England in 1911 to play for [Plymouth Argyle](/source/Plymouth_Argyle_F.C.), then a [Southern League](/source/Southern_Football_League) club. He made 187 appearances for the club in all competitions either side of the First World War.[3] Kirkpatrick played in Argyle's first game in the Football League, as the Southern League Division One clubs were absorbed to form the [Football League Third Division](/source/Football_League_Third_Division) for the [1920–21 season](/source/1920%E2%80%9321_in_English_football).[4] The last of his 40 appearances in that competition came in 1924,[3] and he then joined [Torquay United](/source/Torquay_United_F.C.), still a Southern League club.[1]
