**James Albert Brailey** (1919–1981) was an Australian [rugby league](/source/Rugby_league) footballer who played in the 1940s.

## Background

Brailey was born in [Marrickville, New South Wales](/source/Marrickville%2C_New_South_Wales), on 10 October 1919.

## Playing career

Brailey came through the Newtown junior ranks to become a first-grade player for [Newtown](/source/Newtown_Jets) as a [hooker](/source/Hooker_(rugby_league)). He played seven seasons with Newtown between 1940 and 1947.

Brailey won a premiership with the club in [1943](/source/1943_NSWRFL_season) and was a member of the team that were runners up in [1944](/source/1944_NSWRFL_season). He was a part of a formidable forward pack which included legendary players including [Frank Farrell](/source/Frank_Farrell_(rugby_league)), [Gordon MacLennan](/source/Gordon_McLennan_(rugby_league)), [Chicka Cahill](/source/Charles_Cahill_(rugby_league)) and [Herb Narvo](/source/Herb_Narvo).[1]

Brailey died on 14 January 1981, aged 61.[2]
