# Jimmy Adam

**James Adam** (13 May 1931 – 26 September 2008) was a Scottish [footballer](/source/Association_football) who played in [the Football League](/source/The_Football_League) for [Aston Villa](/source/Aston_Villa_F.C.), [Luton Town](/source/Luton_Town_F.C.) and [Stoke City](/source/Stoke_City_F.C.).[1]

## Career

Born in [Blantyre](/source/Blantyre,_South_Lanarkshire), Adam began his career with local youth club [Blantyre Celtic](/source/Blantyre_Celtic_F.C.) before moving south to English club [Aldershot](/source/Aldershot_F.C.) in 1950.[1] However, the young Adam was only able to make a single league appearance for the club during the [1950–51](/source/1950%E2%80%9351_in_English_football) season and then left and joined non-league [Spennymoor United](/source/Spennymoor_United_F.C.).

In 1953, Adam signed for [Luton Town](/source/Luton_Town_F.C.), where he made 138 appearances during a six-year spell in which he helped the club gain promotion to the [First Division](/source/Football_League_First_Division) in [1954–55](/source/1954%E2%80%9355_in_English_football).[1] By the time of Luton's [relegation](/source/Promotion_and_relegation) from the [First Division](/source/Football_League_First_Division) in 1960, Adam had joined [Aston Villa](/source/Aston_Villa_F.C.), where he spent two seasons before signing for [Stoke City](/source/Stoke_City_F.C.) where he spent the [1961–62](/source/1961%E2%80%9362_Stoke_City_F.C._season) season scoring seven goals in 24 appearances before returning to Scotland with [Falkirk](/source/Falkirk_F.C.).[1] He later emigrated to Australia, where he played for [South Melbourne Hellas](/source/South_Melbourne_FC).[1]

## Death

Adam died in [Melbourne](/source/Melbourne) on 26 September 2008, at the age of 77.[2]
