# Jimi Lewis

**James Lewis** (born 5 July 1974) is an English former [field hockey](/source/Field_hockey) [goalkeeper](/source/Goalkeeper_(field_hockey)), who was a member of the [Great Britain](/source/Great_Britain_men's_national_field_hockey_team) squad that finished ninth at the [2004 Summer Olympics](/source/2004_Summer_Olympics) in [Athens](/source/Athens).[1]

## Biography

Lewis played club hockey for [Havant](/source/Havant_Hockey_Club) in the [Men's England Hockey League](/source/Men's_England_Hockey_League) and became an England U21 international.[2] He made his international debut in Malaysia in 1994, playing against [South Africa](/source/South_Africa_men's_national_field_hockey_team) but was second choice goalkeeper behind [Simon Mason](/source/Simon_Mason_(field_hockey_player)) for many major tournaments.

After joining [Cannock](/source/Cannock_Hockey_Club),[3] he represented [England](/source/England_at_the_2002_Commonwealth_Games) at the [2002 Commonwealth Games](/source/2002_Commonwealth_Games) in Manchester.[4][5]

At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens he represented [Great Britain](/source/Great_Britain_at_the_2004_Summer_Olympics) in the field hockey tournament.[6][1] After the Olympics he left Cannock to join [Gross Flottbeker](/source/Gross_Flottbeker) in Germany.

From 1 March 2016, Lewis coached the German DHB Hockey national team goalkeepers.[citation needed] Lewis often travelled to Spain, and coached hockey for Marshland High School in Norfolk, along with another former international, Paul Swinburn.[citation needed]

As of 2023, he was living in Germany.[7]
