# Jim Shorter

**James Shorter** (June 8, 1938 – June 1, 2000) was an American [football](/source/American_football) [defensive back](/source/Defensive_back) in the [National Football League](/source/National_Football_League)[1] for the [Cleveland Browns](/source/Cleveland_Browns), [Washington Redskins](/source/Washington_Commanders), and the [Pittsburgh Steelers](/source/Pittsburgh_Steelers). He played [college football](/source/College_football) at the [University of Detroit](/source/University_of_Detroit_Mercy) and was [drafted](/source/NFL_draft) in the fourteenth round of the [1962 NFL draft](/source/1962_NFL_draft).

He was a participant in the 1967 [Cleveland Summit](/source/Cleveland_Summit) which was held in support of [Muhammad Ali](/source/Muhammad_Ali)'s draft refusal during the Vietnam War.
