# Jill Milroy

**Jillian Debora Milroy**, [AM](/source/Order_of_Australia) is an [Australian Aboriginal](/source/Australian_Aboriginal) academic specialising in traditional forms of knowledge, including storytelling. She is of [Palyku](/source/Palyku) descent. Of her siblings, [Sally Morgan](/source/Sally_Morgan_(artist)) is an author and artist,[1][2] [Helen Milroy](/source/Helen_Milroy) is a child psychiatrist who was the [first indigenous Australian](/source/List_of_Indigenous_Australian_firsts#1980s) to become a medical doctor,[3][4] David is a playwright,[3][5] and William has worked as a senior public servant.[3][6]

She was dean and [Winthrop Professor](/source/Winthrop_Professor) at the [University of Western Australia](/source/University_of_Western_Australia) (UWA) School of Indigenous Studies and was its founding head.[7] She was made a Member of the [Order of Australia](/source/Order_of_Australia) in 2011.[8] Milroy is currently Pro Vice Chancellor Indigenous Education at UWA and Director of UWA's Poche Centre for Indigenous Health.[9]
