## Boundaries

The constituency encompasses all but one [union parishad](/source/Union_parishad) of [Jessore Sadar Upazila](/source/Jessore_Sadar_Upazila): Basundia.[2]

## History

The constituency was created for the first general elections in newly independent Bangladesh, held in 1973.

Ahead of the [2008 general election](/source/2008_Bangladeshi_general_election), the [Election Commission](/source/Bangladesh_Election_Commission) redrew constituency boundaries to reflect population changes revealed by the [2001 Bangladesh census](/source/2001_Bangladesh_census).[3] The 2008 redistricting altered the boundaries of the constituency.[4]

Ahead of the [2014 general election](/source/2014_Bangladeshi_general_election), the Election Commission expanded the boundaries of the constituency. Previously it excluded four more union parishads of [Jessore Sadar Upazila](/source/Jessore_Sadar_Upazila): Fathehpur, Ichhali, Kachua, and Narendrapur.[5][2][6]
