**Jessica R. Lundy** (born March 20, 1966)[5][6] is an American actress. She began her career appearing in films *[Bright Lights, Big City](/source/Bright_Lights,_Big_City_(film))* (1988), *[Caddyshack II](/source/Caddyshack_II)* (1988) and *[Madhouse](/source/Madhouse_(1990_film))* (1990), before regular roles in the short-lived police drama *[Over My Dead Body](/source/Over_My_Dead_Body_(TV_series))* (1990–91) and six-episode revival of *[The Carol Burnett Show](/source/The_Carol_Burnett_Show)* (1991). She starred in the NBC sitcom *[Hope & Gloria](/source/Hope_%26_Gloria)* from 1995 to 1996, and in the comedy films *[The Stupids](/source/The_Stupids_(film))* (1996) and *[RocketMan](/source/RocketMan_(1997_film))* (1997). From 2015 to 2019, Lundy starred as Amanda Wainwright in the CBS crime drama series, *[The Inspectors](/source/The_Inspectors)*.

## Early life and education

Lundy grew up in [Avon, Connecticut](/source/Avon,_Connecticut).[7][8][9] Lundy has a younger sister, Judy.[10]

Lundy attended the [Circle in the Square Theatre School](/source/Circle_in_the_Square_Theatre_School). She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1987 at the [Tisch School of the Arts](/source/Tisch_School_of_the_Arts) of [New York University](/source/New_York_University), where she majored in drama and performing arts.[4][10] Lundy moved to [Los Angeles](/source/Los_Angeles) in 1990.[7]

## Career

Lundy made her film debut with *[Bright Lights, Big City](/source/Bright_Lights,_Big_City_(film))* (1988). That same year, she appeared in *[Caddyshack II](/source/Caddyshack_II)* (1988). Lundy also appeared opposite [John Larroquette](/source/John_Larroquette) in the 1990 film *[Madhouse](/source/Madhouse_(1990_film))*.[8] Lundy auditioned for the role of [Elaine Benes](/source/Elaine_Benes) on *Seinfeld*. From 1990 to 1991, Lundy appeared opposite [Edward Woodward](/source/Edward_Woodward) in the short-lived CBS police drama series *[Over My Dead Body](/source/Over_My_Dead_Body_(TV_series))*.[11] In 1991, she was regular cast member in the six-episode revival of *[The Carol Burnett Show](/source/The_Carol_Burnett_Show)*. She appeared as Joel Fleishman's fiancée/ex-fiancée Elaine Shulman on the drama series *[Northern Exposure](/source/Northern_Exposure)* in 1990 and 1992. She also appeared in *[The Golden Girls](/source/The_Golden_Girls)* and *[Seinfeld](/source/Seinfeld)* and had a recurring role on *[Baby Talk](/source/Baby_Talk_(TV_series))*.

Lundy has also performed in theater. In 1994, Lundy portrayed Rita Altabel in an [Off-Broadway](/source/Off-Broadway) production of *[Uncommon Women and Others](/source/Uncommon_Women_and_Others_(play))*.[12] From 1993 to 1994 she starred in the short-lived NBC sitcom *[The Second Half](/source/The_Second_Half)*. From 1995 to 1996, Lundy played the title role of Gloria in the NBC sitcom *[Hope and Gloria](/source/Hope_and_Gloria)*.[13][14][15][16] The show was canceled after two seasons and 35 episodes.

In 1996, Lundy starred opposite [Tom Arnold](/source/Tom_Arnold_(actor)) in the comedy film *[The Stupids](/source/The_Stupids_(film))* based on *[The Stupids](/source/The_Stupids)*, characters from a series of books written by [Harry Allard](/source/Harry_Allard) and illustrated by [James Marshall](/source/James_Marshall_(author)).[7] It received negative reviews and was box-office bomb, though the film's director, [John Landis](/source/John_Landis), considers this one of his favorites.[17] The following year she had two female lead roles: in the Italian comedy film *[The Good Bad Guy](/source/The_Good_Bad_Guy)* and science fiction comedy *[RocketMan](/source/RocketMan_(1997_film))* produced by Walt Disney Pictures. In 1998, she had supporting role in the drama film, *[Denial](/source/Denial_(1998_film))*. The following years, Lundy played supporting roles on both film and television, notable guest-starring on *[Dharma & Greg](/source/Dharma_%26_Greg)*, *[Monk](/source/Monk_(TV_series))*, *[The Game](/source/The_Game_(2006_TV_series))*, *[Criminal Minds](/source/Criminal_Minds)*, *[Two and a Half Men](/source/Two_and_a_Half_Men)* and *[Major Crimes](/source/Major_Crimes_(TV_series))*.

From 2015 to 2019, Lundy portrayed Inspector Amanda Wainwright in the [CBS](/source/CBS) educational series, *[The Inspectors](/source/The_Inspectors_(TV_series))*.[18] In 2016, she won a [Daytime Emmy Award](/source/Daytime_Emmy_Award) for [Outstanding Performer in Children's Programming](/source/Daytime_Emmy_Award_for_Outstanding_Performer_in_Children's_Programming) for her performance on *The Inspectors*.[19]
