Coid has made two extended appearances on the TV discussion programme ''[After Dark](/source/After_Dark_(TV_series))''. In the [first](/source/After_Dark_(TV_series)), chaired by [Matthew Parris](/source/Matthew_Parris) in 1991, he joined among others [Michael Winner](/source/Michael_Winner) and the father of [The Yorkshire Ripper](/source/The_Yorkshire_Ripper). The second, in 2003, chaired by Baroness [Helena Kennedy](/source/Helena_Kennedy) QC, aroused a measure of [controversy](/source/After_Dark_(TV_series)).

VPRU research focuses on the epidemiology of violence in the general population, prediction of violence and risk assessment for offenders.
