Strong played soccer for the [North Penn Maidens](/source/North_Penn_High_School) in high school, before playing for the [Connecticut Huskies](/source/UConn_Huskies_women's_soccer) in 1991 and 1992, where she was a [letter-winner](/source/Letterman_(sports)). She served in the [United States Army](/source/United_States_Army) for seven years and was discharged as a [Major](/source/Major_(United_States)). She later worked in [obstetrics and gynecology](/source/Obstetrics_and_gynaecology) in [Grand Junction, Colorado](/source/Grand_Junction%2C_Colorado).
