Frautschi was born in [Pasadena, California](/source/Pasadena%2C_California), and began to play the violin at age three.<ref name="Bio" /> She studied with [Robert Lipsett](/source/Robert_Lipsett) at the [Colburn School](/source/Colburn_School) and later attended [Harvard University](/source/Harvard_University), the [New England Conservatory](/source/New_England_Conservatory), and the [Juilliard School](/source/Juilliard_School), where she studied with [Robert Mann](/source/Robert_Mann).<ref name="Bio" />
