In May 2021, in response to the [2021 Israel–Palestine crisis](/source/2021_Israel%E2%80%93Palestine_crisis), Atwin condemned Israeli airstrikes in the [Gaza Strip](/source/Gaza_Strip) and called Israel's control of the area [apartheid](/source/Apartheid_(crime)). Atwin also called out Green Party leader [Annamie Paul](/source/Annamie_Paul)'s statement on the conflict calling for de-escalation and more dialogue as "totally inadequate".
