In 1998, he was elected to the [Legislative Assembly of Queensland](/source/Legislative_Assembly_of_Queensland) as a member of [Pauline Hanson](/source/Pauline_Hanson)'s [One Nation](/source/One_Nation_(Australia)), representing the seat of [Burdekin](/source/Electoral_district_of_Burdekin). He was party whip and spokesperson for Public Works and Housing until 23 February 1999, when he resigned from the party to sit as an [independent](/source/independent_(politician)).
