# Jean Isambert

**Jean Baptiste Louis Isambert** (1838 – 22 February 1906) was a member of the [Queensland Legislative Assembly](/source/Queensland_Legislative_Assembly).[1]

## Biography

Isambert was born at [Zollhof](/source/D%C3%BCsseldorf), [Germany](/source/Germany), the son of John Baptiste Louis Isambert Snr and his wife Agnes (née McKanem). He owned a [vineyard](/source/Vineyard) at [Ipswich](/source/Ipswich,_Queensland) and was the proprietor of the *Nord Australische Zeitung*.

He died in February 1906 and was buried in the [Cooktown Cemetery](/source/Cooktown_Cemetery).

## Public life

Isambert won the [by-election](/source/1882_Rosewood_colonial_by-election) for the seat of [Rosewood](/source/Electoral_district_of_Rosewood) in the Queensland Legislative Assembly in 1882[2] after the sitting member, [Archibald Meston](/source/Archibald_Meston) was declared bankrupt.[3] He held the seat for 10 years, resigning in 1892.[4]
