==Life==
Dave was born in [Namur](/source/Namur). He took degrees in [theology](/source/theology) and [canon law](/source/canon_law), and served as ecclesiastical councillor on the provincial council of Namur.<ref name=BNB>[E. H. J. Reusens](/source/E._H._J._Reusens), "Dave (Jean)", ''[Biographie Nationale de Belgique](/source/Biographie_Nationale_de_Belgique)'', [https://www.academieroyale.be/Academie/documents/FichierPDFBiographieNationaleTome2045.pdf vol. 4] (Brussels, 1873), 704-705.</ref> In 1580 he was appointed [provost](/source/Provost_(religion)) of the [cathedral chapter](/source/cathedral_chapter). By letters patent of 22 June 1590 he was appointed ecclesiastical councillor to the [Great Council of Mechelen](/source/Great_Council_of_Mechelen), and the following year he became a [canon](/source/canon_(priest)) of [St. Rumbold's Cathedral](/source/St._Rumbold's_Cathedral).<ref name=BNB/> On 25 March 1593, [Philip II of Spain](/source/Philip_II_of_Spain) proposed him as bishop of Namur, and the pope confirmed the appointment early in 1594. Dave was consecrated bishop in Antwerp on 18 September 1594, by [Laevinus Torrentius](/source/Laevinus_Torrentius), with co-consecrators [Ghisbertus Masius](/source/Ghisbertus_Masius), [bishop of 's-Hertogenbosch](/source/bishop_of_'s-Hertogenbosch), and [Francisco de Ribera](/source/Francisco_de_Ribera), [bishop of Leighlin](/source/bishop_of_Leighlin).<ref name=BNB/> He was installed in Namur on 23 October 1594, and died there on 3 March 1595.<ref name=BNB/>
