# Jean-Louis Marnat

**Jean-Louis Marnat** (7 August 1935 – 15 July 1985) was a French rally and race driver.

## Driver career

He started his career in 6 hours of Saint-Cloud, near [Paris](/source/Paris), and won the *Tourism* category with a [Renault](/source/Renault) Dauphine [Gordini](/source/Gordini) in 1959.

For a couple of years he used to drive a [Mini Cooper S](/source/Mini_Cooper_S) in national rallies.[1]

In 1964, 1966 and 1968, he participated to [24 Hours of Le Mans](/source/24_Hours_of_Le_Mans) with a [Triumph Spitfire](/source/Triumph_Spitfire), a [Mini Marcos](/source/Mini_Marcos)[2] and an [Alpine](/source/Alpine_(automobile)) A210.[3] He achieved 15th place in 1966[4]

He also competed in [Tour de France](/source/Tour_de_France_Automobile), [1000 km of Paris](/source/1000_km_of_Paris) and [1000 km of Monza](/source/1000_km_of_Monza) races, on [Linas-Montlhéry](/source/Autodrome_de_Linas-Montlh%C3%A9ry), [Magny-Cours](/source/Circuit_de_Magny-Cours), [Nogaro](/source/Circuit_Paul_Armagnac), [Reims](/source/Reims-Gueux) and [Zolder](/source/Circuit_Zolder) circuits.

## Biography

After graduating from French engineer school (*Ecole technique de constructions aéronautiques et de construction automobile*, ESTACA today[5]), he had opened shops for additional equipments for [Minis](/source/Mini).

He died on 15 July 1985 in a road accident in the French department of [Yonne](/source/Yonne) where he came from.
