# Jay Emler

**Jay Scott Emler** (born May 25, 1949) is a former [Republican](/source/Republican_Party_(United_States)) member of the [Kansas Senate](/source/Kansas_Senate), representing the [35th district](/source/Kansas's_35th_Senate_district) from 2001 until 2014. He previously worked as a Municipal Judge in [Lindsborg](/source/Lindsborg,_Kansas). Emler was elected by his colleagues to serve as [majority leader](/source/Majority_leader) of the Senate, following [Derek Schmidt](/source/Derek_Schmidt)'s election as [Kansas Attorney General](/source/Kansas_Attorney_General).[2] Emler assumed the position when the Senate convened January 10, 2011.[citation needed] Emler accepted an appointment to the [Kansas Corporation Commission](/source/Kansas_Corporation_Commission) and resigned his seat in the Kansas Senate in 2014;[3] he was succeeded by [Clark Shultz](/source/Clark_Shultz).[4]

He lives in Lindsborg, is married to Lorraine Emler and practices law in [McPherson](/source/McPherson,_Kansas).
