Canadian playwright (born 1978)

**Jason Hall** (born 1978) is a Canadian [playwright](/source/Playwright). He was born and raised in [Toronto](/source/Toronto), [Ontario](/source/Ontario). He attended [Queen's University](/source/Queen's_University_at_Kingston), [King's College London](/source/King's_College_London), and the [Royal Academy of Dramatic Art](/source/Royal_Academy_of_Dramatic_Art).

*Eyes Catch Fire*, his first full-length play, won Canada's [Herman Voaden Playwriting Competition](/source/Herman_Voaden_Playwriting_Competition) in 2003. It was subsequently produced at the [Finborough Theatre](/source/Finborough_Theatre), London in 2004 and was selected as a [Time Out](/source/Time_Out_(company)) Critics' Choice.[1]

*GBS*, his second play, was first produced at Toronto's [Factory Theatre](/source/Factory_Theatre) in 2004 as part of the [Toronto Fringe Festival](/source/Toronto_Fringe_Festival). Its second production was in 2006 at [Theatre503](/source/Theatre503), London.[2] *GBS'* third production took place in March–April 2010 at [New York](/source/New_York_City)'s off-Broadway Kirk Theatre on [Theatre Row](/source/Theatre_Row_(New_York_City)).[3]

*Stand Sentry*, a [short film](/source/Short_film) adapted from his play of the same name, premiered at the Strasbourg International Film Festival on August 31, 2009.[4]

In 2005, he was selected by the [Royal Court Theatre](/source/Royal_Court_Theatre) Young Writers Programme to attend the [World Interplay](/source/World_Interplay) Festival in [Australia](/source/Australia).[5] Later that year, he was chosen by the [British Council](/source/British_Council)'s Visiting Arts programme to spend three months in residence at El Teatro Libre in [Bogotá, Colombia](/source/Bogot%C3%A1%2C_Colombia).[6]

He currently resides in [London](/source/London), UK.
