# Jason Frederick

**Jason Frederick** (born November 29, 1970) is a [Canadian](/source/Canadians) multi-instrumentalist and composer of music for films and television, based in [Colchester](/source/Colchester), UK.

## Early life and education

Frederick was born in [Sudbury, Ontario](/source/Sudbury,_Ontario). He was educated in Canada and the United States. He studied under composers [Christopher Young](/source/Christopher_Young), [David Raksin](/source/David_Raksin), and [Elmer Bernstein](/source/Elmer_Bernstein) at the [USC Thornton School of Music](/source/USC_Thornton_School_of_Music), as well as receiving private study with [Leonard Rosenman](/source/Leonard_Rosenman) and [Joe Harnell](/source/Joe_Harnell).

## Career

Frederick performed with the alternative rock band [The Walk](/source/The_Walk_(Canadian_Band)) from 1987 to 1996, and continues to record under the name Lomax!.[1]

His film work includes *[Dawg](/source/Dawg_(film))*, starring [Denis Leary](/source/Denis_Leary) and [Elizabeth Hurley](/source/Elizabeth_Hurley), and *2BPerfectlyHonest*, starring [John Turturro](/source/John_Turturro) and [Robert Vaughn](/source/Robert_Vaughn),[2] as well as contributions to [Richard Gibbs](/source/Richard_Gibbs)' scores for the films *[Big Momma's House](/source/Big_Momma's_House)*, *[28 Days](/source/28_Days_(film))*, and *[Like Mike](/source/Like_Mike)*.

He composed the music for the television show *[Darcy's Wild Life](/source/Darcy's_Wild_Life)*, starring [Sara Paxton](/source/Sara_Paxton). Other television credits include [Disney's](/source/Disney) *[The Replacements](/source/The_Replacements_(TV_series))*, and the [ABC Family](/source/Freeform_(TV_channel)) network's *[Slacker Cats](/source/Slacker_Cats)*.

Frederick also provided additional score for [Disney's](/source/Disney) *[101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure](/source/101_Dalmatians_II:_Patch's_London_Adventure)*, which won the 2003 DVDX award for best musical score. He provided music for the 2007 comedy-horror film *Terror Tunes 2*.[3]

In addition to film and television, Frederick has also scored television advertisements, promotional trailers, and documentary subjects. He also composed and performed the wraparound segments for [Showtime's](/source/Showtime_(TV_network)) *On The Edge*, and the opening theme for psychic [Sylvia Browne's](/source/Sylvia_Browne) live stadium appearances.

He has played on recordings with artists [Billy Preston](/source/Billy_Preston),[4] and [Peter Thomas](/source/Peter_Thomas_(composer)),[1] and has played on soundtrack sessions for film and television.

In about 2010, Frederick moved to Colchester, United Kingdom,[5] where, with his band The Cinematic Trio, he has presented a series of shows mixing musical performances with film sequences.[6][7]

In 2012, Frederick recorded with the band Death by Chocolate on their album *Brick-a-Brac*.[8] In 2015 his album *Mods and Coppers* received airplay on community radio in Ontario.[9]
