'''Jared Young Sanders Sr.''' (January 29, 1869 &ndash; March 23, 1944) was an American journalist and attorney from [Franklin](/source/Franklin%2C_Louisiana), the seat of [St. Mary Parish](/source/St._Mary_Parish%2C_Louisiana) in south [Louisiana](/source/Louisiana), who served as his state's [House Speaker](/source/Speaker_of_the_Louisiana_House_of_Representatives) (1900–1904), [lieutenant governor](/source/Lieutenant_Governor_of_Louisiana) (1904–1908), the 34th [governor](/source/Governor_of_Louisiana) (1908–1912), and [U.S. representative](/source/U.S._representative) (1917–1921). Near the end of his political career he was a part of the [anti-Long](/source/Huey_Long) [faction](/source/Political_faction) within the Louisiana [Democratic Party](/source/Democratic_Party_(United_States)). He married Ada Veronica Shaw on May 31, 1891, and they had one son, [Jared Y.
