**Jar** is a district in the municipality of [Bærum](/source/B%C3%A6rum), [Norway](/source/Norway). Its annual population change (2020 - 2025), was 1.1%.

It is served by the [Jar rail station](/source/Jar_(station)) on the [Kolsås Line](/source/Kols%C3%A5s_Line).

## Etymology

The name "Jar" comes, like [Jæren](/source/J%C3%A6ren), from [old norse](/source/Old_norse) *Jaðarr*, meaning "edge". It's named this because it's at the edge of the deep valley of [Lysakerelven](/source/Lysakerelven).
