**Janet Lansbury** ([née](/source/Birth_name#Maiden_and_married_names) Janet Louise Johnson) is an American educator and former actress, credited as **Janet Julian** for much of her career.[2]

## Early life

Janet Louise Johnson was born in [Evanston, Illinois](/source/Evanston%2C_Illinois), and raised there and in Southern California.[2] She graduated from [North Hollywood High School](/source/North_Hollywood_High_School)[3] and attended the [University of California, Los Angeles](/source/University_of_California%2C_Los_Angeles) before moving to New York to become a model. She was a print and commercial model including commercials for [Herbal Essences](/source/Herbal_Essences) shampoo.[4]

## Acting career

Lansbury got her big break when she won the role of [Nancy Drew](/source/Nancy_Drew) in the 1970s television series *[The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries](/source/The_Hardy_Boys%2FNancy_Drew_Mysteries)* when [Pamela Sue Martin](/source/Pamela_Sue_Martin) left the show in 1978. Her other well-known TV role came a year later on the [cult TV series](/source/Cult_following) *[B. J. and the Bear](/source/B._J._and_the_Bear)* as Tommy. She starred on the evening [soap opera](/source/Soap_opera) *[Falcon Crest](/source/Falcon_Crest)* in 1989 as Cookie Nash.

## Teaching

Lansbury left acting in 1995 to raise her three children with husband Michael Lansbury, and she later became a parent educator. She has served on the Board of Directors of Resources for Infant Educarers ([RIE](http://www.rie.org/)) since 1995 and teaches RIE Parent/Infant Guidance Classes. In 2009, she began a parent education [blog](http://www.janetlansbury.com/). She later published two books, *Elevating Child Care: A Guide to Respectful Parenting* and *No Bad Kids: Toddler Discipline Without Shame.* In 2015, Lansbury launched *Janet Lansbury Unruffled,* a podcast series about respectful parenting.

## Personal life

Julian has been married to Michael Lansbury, the nephew of actress [Angela Lansbury](/source/Angela_Lansbury), since 1990. They have three children together.
