# Jan Smithwick

**Janice (Jan) Smithwick** (born 6 August 1952) is an Australian former [basketball](/source/Basketball) player[2] and the former captain of the [Australia women's national basketball team](/source/Australia_women's_national_basketball_team).[3][4] In 1985, she won the [WNBL](/source/Women's_National_Basketball_League) championship with the Coburg Cougars.[5]

## Biography

Smithwick played for the [Australia women's national basketball team](/source/Australia_women's_national_basketball_team) during the late 1970s and early 1980s and competed for Australia at the [1979 World Championship](/source/1979_FIBA_World_Championship_for_Women) held in South Korea.[6] Smithwick also played for the Opals at the 1980 World Olympic Qualifying Tournament held in Bulgaria.[7]

In the domestic [Women's National Basketball League](/source/Women's_National_Basketball_League) (WNBL), Smithwick played for the CYMS Comets (1981–82) and the Coburg Cougars (1983–85).[8]
