**Jami Cate** (born 1986/87) is an American Republican politician and farmer serving as a member of the [Oregon House of Representatives](/source/Oregon_House_of_Representatives). She currently represents the [11th district](/source/Oregon's_11th_House_district), which covers parts of [Linn County](/source/Linn_County%2C_Oregon) and [Marion County](/source/Marion_County%2C_Oregon), including the cities of [Lebanon](/source/Lebanon%2C_Oregon), [Sweet Home](/source/Sweet_Home%2C_Oregon), and [Jefferson](/source/Jefferson%2C_Oregon).

First elected to the legislature in [2020](/source/2020_Oregon_House_of_Representatives_election), she previously represented the [17th district](/source/Oregon's_17th_House_district), and assumed office in January 2021.

## Early life and education

Cate is a fifth-generation [Linn County](/source/Linn_County%2C_Oregon) farmer, and grew up on a multi-generation farm family north of [Lebanon, Oregon](/source/Lebanon%2C_Oregon). She received her [bachelor's degree](/source/Bachelor's_degree) from [Oregon State University](/source/Oregon_State_University) in Crop and Soil Science.[1][2]

## Career

In 2020, after incumbent [Sherrie Springer](/source/Sherrie_Sprenger) stepped down to run for the Linn County commission, Cate announced her candidacy for the Oregon House of Representatives' [17th district](/source/Oregon's_17th_House_district). She won the crowded Republican primary with 26.6% of the vote, or 2,903 votes, defeating Scott Sword by just 34 votes.[3][4] She went on to win the November general election against Democratic candidate Paige Hook.[5]

In 2022, following redistricting, Cate was drawn into the [11th District](/source/Oregon's_11th_House_district), where she ran for re-election and defeated Mary Cooke in the November general election.[6][7][8]

In July 2025, Cate declared her candidacy for [Oregon's 6th Senate district](/source/Oregon's_6th_Senate_district) in [2026](/source/2026_Oregon_State_Senate_election).[9]

## Political positions

Following the [Standoff at Eagle Pass](/source/Standoff_at_Eagle_Pass), Cate signed a letter in support of Texas Governor [Greg Abbott](/source/Greg_Abbott)'s decision in the conflict.[10]
