# James Trittipo

American art director

**James Trittipo** (June 30, 1928 — September 15, 1971) was an American television [art director](/source/Art_director) and stage set designer in New York and Hollywood, known for his designs of television variety shows including *The Bing Crosby Show* (ABC-March 2, 1959),[1] *[The Frank Sinatra Show (CBS)](/source/The_Frank_Sinatra_Show_(CBS))*, *[The Frank Sinatra Timex Show: Welcome Home Elvis](/source/The_Frank_Sinatra_Timex_Show%3A_Welcome_Home_Elvis)*, and *[An Evening with Fred Astaire](/source/An_Evening_with_Fred_Astaire)*.[2] Trittipo won Art Direction [Emmy Awards](/source/Emmy_Award) for the [ABC Television](/source/American_Broadcasting_Company) variety series *[The Hollywood Palace](/source/The_Hollywood_Palace)* and *An Evening with Fred Astaire*. He was the art director on behalf of both ABC Television and the [Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences](/source/Academy_of_Motion_Picture_Arts_and_Sciences) for the [41st Academy Awards](/source/41st_Academy_Awards) on April 14, 1969[3][4] and he designed a set "evocative of waterfront pilings" for [Rod McKuen](/source/Rod_McKuen)'s May 10, 1969 television special on [NBC](/source/NBC).[5] He died of a heart attack at age 43.
