**James Minto** (born 26 November 2007) is an English [cricketer](/source/Cricket) who plays for [Durham](/source/Durham_County_Cricket_Club).[2] He is a left arm bowler and left-handed batter.[3]

## Career

Minto was raised in [Norton, County Durham](/source/Norton%2C_County_Durham), where he played for the local cricket club at junior level before joining their first team at the age of 13.[1] He signed with [Durham](/source/Durham_County_Cricket_Club)'s academy in December 2023.[4] In June 2024, he played for [England Young Lions](/source/England_Lions_cricket_team).[5][6]

Minto made his [List A](/source/List_A_cricket) debut on 28 July 2024, against [Worcestershire](/source/Worcestershire_County_Cricket_Club) in the [One-Day Cup](/source/2024_One-Day_Cup),[7] taking two wickets in the match.[8] Aged 16 years 296 days, on 17 September 2024 he became the youngest [first-class](/source/First-class_cricket) player in Durham's history, when he took to the field at the [Oval](/source/The_Oval) against [Surrey](/source/Surrey_County_Cricket_Club) in the [County Championship](/source/2024_County_Championship).[1][9] In that match, he became the second youngest player (after [Craig Miles](/source/Craig_Miles) for [Gloucestershire](/source/Gloucestershire_County_Cricket_Club)) to take a first-class wicket since [World War II](/source/World_War_II).[1]

Minto signed his first professional contract with Durham in May 2025.[10] Later that month he scored his maiden first-class half-century, making 67 after being sent in to open the batting as [nightwatchman](/source/Nightwatchman_(cricket)) against [Nottinghamshire](/source/Nottinghamshire_County_Cricket_Club) at the [Riverside Ground](/source/Riverside_Ground). Aged 17 years and 172 days he became the county's youngest ever half-centurion.[11][12]
