# James Mew

**James Mew** (1837 – 25 February 1913) was an English barrister and [man of letters](/source/Man_of_letters), a contributor to the *[Dictionary of National Biography](/source/Dictionary_of_National_Biography)*.

## Life

He was the son of George Mew of [Holborn](/source/Holborn), educated at [Merchant Taylors' School](/source/Merchant_Taylors'_School,_Northwood). He matriculated at [Wadham College, Oxford](/source/Wadham_College,_Oxford) in 1855, graduating B.A. in 1860. He was [called to the bar](/source/Called_to_the_bar) at the [Inner Temple](/source/Inner_Temple) in 1864.[1][2]

He died on 25 February 1913.[3]
