Smith](/source/William_E._Smith_(politician)). ==Federal judicial service== Jenkins was nominated by President [Grover Cleveland](/source/Grover_Cleveland) on June 19, 1888, to a seat on the [United States District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin](/source/United_States_District_Court_for_the_Eastern_District_of_Wisconsin) vacated by Judge [Charles E. Dyer](/source/Charles_E._Dyer). He was confirmed by the [United States Senate](/source/United_States_Senate) on July 2, 1888, and received his commission the same day. His service terminated on March 23, 1893, due to his elevation to the Seventh Circuit.
