**James Donald Walsh** (born August 9, 1946) is an American diplomat and [foreign service officer](/source/Foreign_service_officer).

Walsh served as the [United States Ambassador to Argentina](/source/United_States_Ambassador_to_Argentina) from his appointment on June 14, 2000, until he left the post on May 21, 2003.[1]

Walsh was born on August 9, 1946, in [Scranton, Pennsylvania](/source/Scranton%2C_Pennsylvania),[2] where he was also raised. He graduated from [Scranton Preparatory School](/source/Scranton_Preparatory_School),[3] received his [bachelor's degree](/source/Bachelor's_degree) from the [University of Scranton](/source/University_of_Scranton), and a [master's degree](/source/Master's_degree) from the [Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs](/source/Maxwell_School_of_Citizenship_and_Public_Affairs) at [Syracuse University](/source/Syracuse_University).[4]
