Chalmers was educated at [Eagle House School](/source/Eagle_House_School) in [Berkshire](/source/Berkshire) and [Bradfield College](/source/Bradfield_College). He went on to study at the [University of Edinburgh](/source/University_of_Edinburgh) from 1994 to 1998, where he was awarded a [BSc](/source/BSc) in [Civil Engineering](/source/Civil_Engineering). He then trained at the [London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art](/source/London_Academy_of_Music_and_Dramatic_Art) (LAMDA), [London](/source/London), where fellow students included [Daisy Haggard](/source/Daisy_Haggard) and [Benedict Cumberbatch](/source/Benedict_Cumberbatch), graduating in 2000.
