Martin attended [McKinley High School](/source/Canton_McKinley_High_School), where he was a two-way player. As a senior, he [started](/source/Starting_lineup) at [fullback](/source/Fullback_(American_football)) and [outside linebacker](/source/outside_linebacker), tallying 59 carries for 368 yards (6.2-yard avg), 5 [touchdown](/source/touchdown)s, 59 tackles and 5 sacks. He also helped his team achieve a 14-0 record and the Ohio Big School State Championship.
