Constituency of Bangladesh's Jatiya Sangsad

Jamalpur-3 Constituency for the Jatiya Sangsad District Jamalpur District Division Mymensingh Division Electorate 501,819 (2024) Current constituency Created 1978 ← 139 Jamalpur-2 141 Jamalpur-4 →

**Jamalpur-3** is a constituency represented in the [Jatiya Sangsad](/source/Jatiya_Sangsad) (National Parliament) of [Bangladesh](/source/Bangladesh).

## Boundaries

The constituency encompasses [Madarganj](/source/Madarganj_Upazila) and [Melandaha](/source/Melandaha_Upazila) upazilas.[1][2]

## History

The constituency was created in 1978 from the Mymensingh-13 constituency when the former Mymensingh District was split into two districts: [Jamalpur](/source/Jamalpur_District) and [Mymensingh](/source/Mymensingh_District).[3]

Ahead of the [2008 general election](/source/2008_Bangladeshi_general_election), the [Election Commission](/source/Bangladesh_Election_Commission) redrew constituency boundaries to reflect population changes revealed by the [2001 Bangladesh census](/source/2001_Bangladesh_census).[4] The 2008 redistricting altered the boundaries of the constituency.[5]

Ahead of the [2014 general election](/source/2014_Bangladeshi_general_election), the Election Commission expanded the boundaries of the constituency. Previously it had excluded two [union parishads](/source/Union_Parishad) of [Melandaha Upazila](/source/Melandaha_Upazila): Mahmudpur and Shaympur.[2][6]
