**Jamal Khamis Taha** ([Arabic](/source/Arabic_language): جمال خميس طه; born 23 November 1966) is a [football](/source/Association_football) coach and former player who is the head coach of the [Lebanon national under-23 team](/source/Lebanon_national_under-23_football_team). Born in Egypt, he played for the [Lebanon national team](/source/Lebanon_national_football_team) between 1993 and 2000, and was their [captain](/source/Captain_(association_football)) at the [2000 Asian Cup](/source/2000_AFC_Asian_Cup).

## Early life

Jamal Taha was born in [Cairo](/source/Cairo), Egypt,[1] to an Egyptian father and a Lebanese mother; he obtained [Lebanese citizenship](/source/Lebanese_nationality_law) through [naturalization](/source/Naturalization) in 1992 via a presidential decree.[2] Taha joined [Ansar](/source/Al_Ansar_FC)'s youth team in 1977.[3]

## Club career

Nicknamed "the Brown Gazelle" ([Arabic](/source/Arabic_language): الغزال الأسمر),[4][5] Taha began his senior career with [Ansar](/source/Al_Ansar_FC) in 1986, where he ended his career in 2002.[3] He wore the number 6 on his jersey,[5] and was the club's captain from 1997 onwards.[3]

## International career

Taha was the [national team](/source/Lebanon_national_football_team)'s captain during the [2000 AFC Asian Cup](/source/2000_AFC_Asian_Cup) in Lebanon.[6]

## Managerial career

### Ansar

Taha started out as [Adnan Hamad](/source/Adnan_Hamad)'s assistant manager at [Ansar](/source/Al_Ansar_FC) during the [2005–06 season](/source/2005%E2%80%9306_Lebanese_Premier_League); he helped his side win the [domestic double](/source/Double_(association_football)) ([Lebanese Premier League](/source/Lebanese_Premier_League) and [Lebanese FA Cup](/source/Lebanese_FA_Cup)).[7] The following season, in [2006–07](/source/2006%E2%80%9307_Lebanese_Premier_League), Taha was appointed the first manager of Ansar, winning Ansar's second consecutive domestic double.[7] He remained head coach until the end of the [2007–08 season](/source/2007%E2%80%9308_Lebanese_Premier_League), where he lost the league title to [Ahed](/source/Al_Ahed_FC) by one point.[7]

In July 2011, Taha was re-appointed manager of Ansar, staying there until the end of the [2012–13 season](/source/2012%E2%80%9313_Lebanese_Premier_League).[8][9] He won the [2011–12 Lebanese FA Cup](/source/2011%E2%80%9312_Lebanese_FA_Cup), and the 2012 [Lebanese Super Cup](/source/Lebanese_Super_Cup).[10]

### Shabab Sahel and Tadamon Sour

On 10 September 2013, he took charge of [Shabab Sahel](/source/Shabab_Al_Sahel_FC);[9] he won the [Lebanese Challenge Cup](/source/Lebanese_Challenge_Cup) in 2014. After two seasons he returned to Ansar, managing them during the [2015–16 season](/source/2015%E2%80%9316_Lebanese_Premier_League), before resigning after the first league game of the [following season](/source/2016%E2%80%9317_Lebanese_Premier_League) in September 2016.[8] In January 2017, Taha became manager of [Tadamon Sour](/source/Tadamon_Sour_SC) until June 2018.[8]

### Lebanon

On 3 June 2019, he was appointed assistant manager of the [Lebanon national team](/source/Lebanon_national_football_team) under [Liviu Ciobotariu](/source/Liviu_Ciobotariu)'s tenure.[11] After one year, on 17 June 2020, the [Lebanese Football Association](/source/Lebanese_Football_Association) (LFA) decided not to extend Ciobotariu's contract, and appointed Taha as the national team's coach.[12] He became the first Lebanese coach of the national team in almost 12 years, since the appointment of [Emile Rustom](/source/Emile_Rustom) in November 2008.[5][13]

Under Taha, Lebanon underperformed in their last three fixtures of the [second round](/source/2022_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_%E2%80%93_AFC_second_round) of [2022 FIFA World Cup qualification](/source/2022_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_(AFC)), struggling to overcome [Sri Lanka](/source/Sri_Lanka_national_football_team) 3–2,[14] and losing against [Turkmenistan](/source/Turkmenistan_national_football_team) and [South Korea](/source/South_Korea_national_football_team);[15][16] Lebanon qualified Lebanon to the [third round](/source/2022_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_%E2%80%93_AFC_third_round) as fifth-best runner-up by virtue of other results going in their favour.[17] Taha's tenure was not extended following the expiration of his one-year contract on 30 June 2021.[18]

### Lebanon U23

On 27 September 2021, Taha was announced as head coach of the [Lebanon national under-23 team](/source/Lebanon_national_under-23_football_team).[19]

### Return to Ansar

On 26 June 2022, Taha returned as head coach of Ansar.[20]

### Return to Lebanon U23

In January 2025, Taha returned as head coach of the Lebanon national under-23 team.[21] He led the team to their first [AFC U-23 Asian Cup](/source/AFC_U-23_Asian_Cup) qualification for the [2026](/source/2026_AFC_U-23_Asian_Cup) tournament,[22] where Lebanon lost the first two games against [Uzbekistan](/source/Uzbekistan_national_under-23_football_team_results) (3–2) and [South Korea](/source/South_Korea_national_under-23_football_team) (4–2), and won against [Iran](/source/Iran_national_under-23_football_team) (1–0), Lebanon's first victory in the AFC U-23 Asian Cup.[23]

### Return to Tadamon Sour

On 22 July 2025, Taha was re-appointed head coach of Tadamon Sour.[24]
