He previously played [college ice hockey](/source/college_ice_hockey) for [Ohio State University](/source/Ohio_State_Buckeyes_men's_ice_hockey) and [Boston University](/source/Boston_University_Terriers_men's_ice_hockey) of the [National Collegiate Athletic Association](/source/National_Collegiate_Athletic_Association) (NCAA).

==Playing career==

=== Collegiate ===

==== Boston University ====
Wise was drafted by the [Chicago Blackhawks](/source/Chicago_Blackhawks) in the third round of the [2018 NHL entry draft](/source/2018_NHL_entry_draft).<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://www.hockeyjournal.com/jake-wise-boston-university-chicago-blackhawks/|title=NHL Draft: Future BU center Jake Wise lands with Chicago Blackhawks|first=Jeff|last=Cox|date=June 23, 2018}}</ref>

Wise originally committed to play [college ice hockey](/source/college_ice_hockey) for the [Boston University](/source/Boston_University_Terriers_men's_ice_hockey) during the [2018–19 season](/source/2018%E2%80%9319_NCAA_Division_I_men's_ice_hockey_season). However, his time at Boston University was frustrating for him, as he never finished a full season for the team due to both injury and the [COVID-19 pandemic](/source/2019%E2%80%9320_NCAA_Division_I_men's_ice_hockey_season).<ref>{{Cite web |last=Willis |first=David |date=July 3, 2022 |title=After three rough college seasons, ex-Central star Wise rediscovers star form after move to Ohio State |url=https://sports.yahoo.com/three-rough-college-seasons-ex-111900745.html |website=Yahoo Sports}}</ref>

====Ohio State University ====
Wise transferred to [Ohio State University](/source/Ohio_State_Buckeyes_men's_ice_hockey) beginning in the [2021–22 season](/source/2021%E2%80%9322_NCAA_Division_I_men's_ice_hockey_season). He immediately had more success at Ohio State, finishing third on the team in total points and tied for second in goals. Wise decided to return to Ohio State for the [2022–23 season](/source/2022%E2%80%9323_NCAA_Division_I_men's_ice_hockey_season), his final season of eligibility.<ref>{{Cite web |last= |first= |date=July 24, 2022 |title=Jake Wise To Play Fifth College Season |url=https://bvmsports.com/2022/07/24/jake-wise-to-play-fifth-college-season/ |website=BVM Sports |access-date=May 28, 2023 |archive-date=May 28, 2023 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20230528121933/https://bvmsports.com/2022/07/24/jake-wise-to-play-fifth-college-season/ |url-status=dead }}</ref> Prior to the start of the season, he was named one of three captains of the team.<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://ohiostatebuckeyes.com/news/2022/9/30/buckeyes-announce-2022-23-captains|title=Buckeyes Announce 2022-23 Captains|website=Ohio State}}</ref> He had another successful season, finishing second on the team in total points and third in assists. In Ohio State's dominating 8–1 win over [Harvard University](/source/Harvard_Crimson_men's_ice_hockey) in the first round of the [2023 NCAA tournament](/source/2023_NCAA_Division_I_men's_ice_hockey_tournament), Wise had four assists.<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://ohiostatebuckeyes.com/news/2023/3/24/ohio-state-outstanding-in-8-1-win-over-harvard|title=Ohio State Outstanding in 8-1 Win Over Harvard|website=Ohio State}}</ref> Ohio State would eventually lose the [Quinnipiac University](/source/Quinnipiac_Bobcats_men's_ice_hockey) the following round.

=== Professional ===
After his college eligibility ran out, Wise signed a [professional tryout contract](/source/Ice_hockey_contract) (PTO) with the [Charlotte Checkers](/source/Charlotte_Checkers) of the [American Hockey League](/source/American_Hockey_League).<ref>{{Cite web |title=Jake Wise Signs With The AHL Charlotte Checkers After College Career At Ohio State |url=https://www.bcsnn.com/hockey/2579-jake-wise-signs-with-the-ahl-charlotte-checkers-after-college-career-at-ohio-state |website=BCSNN}}</ref> In his lone regular season game with the club, he scored two assists for his first professional points.

On August 17, 2023, the Checkers announced that they had signed Wise to a one-year AHL contract for the [2023–24](/source/2023%E2%80%9324_AHL_season) season.<ref>{{cite web |last=Niedzielski |first=Nicholas |date=August 17, 2023 |title=Checkers sign Jake Wise to AHL deal |url=https://charlottecheckers.com/articles/checkers-sign-jake-wise-to-ahl-deal |accessdate=August 17, 2023 |publisher=[Charlotte Checkers](/source/Charlotte_Checkers)}}</ref> Wise made 38 regular season appearance with the Checkers, posting 7 goals and 20 points, before he was traded to the Chicago Wolves in exchange for [Mitchell Vande Sompel](/source/Mitchell_Vande_Sompel) on March 9, 2024.<ref>{{cite web| url = https://twitter.com/Chicago_Wolves/status/1766154451780288705 | title = Wolves acquire Wise from Checkers | publisher = [Twitter](/source/Twitter) | author = [Chicago Wolves](/source/Chicago_Wolves) | date = March 9, 2024 | accessdate = March 9, 2024 }}</ref> Wise would struggle with the Wolves, scoring a lone assist in 15 games. The team success wasn't much better, as they missed the playoffs.

As a free agent, Wise remained un-signed over the summer until he agreed to a PTO with the [Ontario Reign](/source/Ontario_Reign) of the AHL, affiliate to the [Los Angeles Kings](/source/Los_Angeles_Kings). He remained on the Reign's roster through pre-season and the beginning of the [2024–25](/source/2024%E2%80%9325_AHL_season) season, however did not make his debut with the club. On October 29, 2024, Wise left the Reign to sign a PTO with fellow AHL club, the Colorado Eagles.<ref>{{citeweb| url = https://www.coloradoeagles.com/news/detail/eagles-sign-wise-to-pto-kahkonen-returns-to-avalanche | title = Eagles sign Wise to PTO, Kakkonen returns to Avalanche | date = October 29, 2024 | accessdate = October 29, 2024 | publisher = [Colorado Eagles](/source/Colorado_Eagles) }}</ref> Instantly used in a scoring role with the Eagles, Wise added 5 points through is first 6 games to earn a one-year contract with Colorado on November 13, 2024.<ref>{{citeweb| url = https://x.com/ColoradoEagles/status/1856743032432808244 | publisher = [X](/source/X_(Twitter)) | date = November 13, 2024 | accessdate = November 13, 2024 | title = Wise is here to stay | author = [Colorado Eagles](/source/Colorado_Eagles) }}</ref> On April 12, Wise assisted on [Colorado Avalanche](/source/Colorado_Avalanche) captain [Gabriel Landeskog](/source/Gabriel_Landeskog) first professional goal since 2022, while Landeskog was with the Eagles on a rehab stint for that kept him out for almost three years.<ref>{{Cite web |last=Williams |first=Patrick |date=2025-04-13 |title=Gabriel Landeskog's First AHL Goal Marks A Long Road Back |url=https://www.flohockey.tv/articles/14082089-gabriel-landeskogs-first-ahl-goal-marks-a-long-road-back |access-date=2025-04-24 |website=FloHockey |language=en}}</ref> Wise finished the season with 16 goals and 19 assists in 56 games. He would score two goals in eight playoffs games before the Eagles were eliminated by the [Abbotsford Canucks](/source/Abbotsford_Canucks) in the semifinals of the [Calder Cup](/source/Calder_Cup) playoffs.

In establishing career high offensive totals, Wise was re-signed by the Colorado Eagles to a one-year contract for the [2025–26](/source/2025-26_AHL_season) season on June 3, 2025.<ref>{{citeweb| url = https://www.coloradoeagles.com/news/detail/eagles-sign-wise-to-ahl-contract-for-2025-26 | title = Eagles sign Wise to AHL contract for 2025-26 | publisher = [Colorado Eagles](/source/Colorado_Eagles) | date = June 3, 2025 | accessdate = June 3, 2025 }}</ref>
