**Jake McGuire** (born September 3, 1994) is an American [soccer](/source/Association_football) player who plays as a [goalkeeper](/source/Goalkeeper_(association_football)) for [Sporting JAX](/source/Sporting_Club_Jacksonville) in [USL Championship](/source/USL_Championship).

## Early life and education

McGuire played in the youth ranks of [Major League Soccer](/source/Major_League_Soccer) side [Chivas USA](/source/Chivas_USA).[1] He also trained with the [Chivas USA](/source/Chivas_USA) first team.[2]

McGuire played [college soccer](/source/College_soccer_in_the_United_States) for the [Tulsa Golden Hurricane](/source/Tulsa_Golden_Hurricane_men's_soccer). As a senior, he was named to the NSCAA Third-Team All-East Region and the [American Athletic Conference](/source/American_Athletic_Conference) All-Tournament Team.[3] While at the [University of Tulsa](/source/University_of_Tulsa) between 2013 and 2016, he started all four years, made 67 appearances, and concluded his career ranked first in career shutouts, minutes played, and games played.[4] He tallied 17 shutouts (school record).[5][6] He was on the All-Academic Team from 2014 to 2017.[7] While at college, McGuire also appeared for [Premier Development League](/source/Premier_Development_League) sides [OC Pateadores Blues](/source/OC_Pateadores_Blues) and [Portland Timbers U23s](/source/Portland_Timbers_U23s).[8]

## Club career

### Professional

On January 13, 2017, McGuire was selected 30th overall in the [2017 MLS SuperDraft](/source/2017_MLS_SuperDraft) by [Houston Dynamo](/source/Houston_Dynamo).[9] While with Houston during the 2017 preseason, McGuire started a scrimmage against the [Colorado Rapids](/source/Colorado_Rapids) (February 25), helping keep a clean sheet over 65 minutes of play. He also appeared in a friendly for [Rio Grande Valley FC](/source/Rio_Grande_Valley_FC) against the Dynamo in an intra-squad scrimmage (February 7).[10] McGuire signed with [Philadelphia Union](/source/Philadelphia_Union) on March 10, 2017, after his rights were waived by Houston.[10]

### Philadelphia Union

McGuire never played a league match with the Union. Throughout his career with the Union, he was listed as a substitute on 14 occasions but did not see any minutes on the pitch. However, he was in the starting lineup for a club friendly on July 15, 2017, against [Swansea City](/source/Swansea_City_A.F.C.).[11]

### Bethlehem Steel

McGuire made his professional debut on April 9, 2017, while on loan with the Union's [United Soccer League](/source/United_Soccer_League) affiliate [Bethlehem Steel](/source/Bethlehem_Steel_FC). McGuire played 90 minutes in a 2–0 win over [FC Cincinnati](/source/FC_Cincinnati_(2016%E2%80%9318)).[12] He established himself as the starting goalkeeper during his tenure with the Bethlehem Steel. He currently holds the club's record for career Saves, Shutouts, Wins, Minutes, and Games Played.[13]

### Gefle IF

On January 21, 2019, McGuire signed with [Gefle IF](/source/Gefle_IF) as a free transfer competing in [Division 1 Norra](/source/Division_1_Norra). He has appeared in 30 games collecting 7 clean sheets.

### Örebro SK

After a successful season at Gefle IF in 2019, McGuire was offered a contract with Allsvenskan side, [Örebro SK](/source/%C3%96rebro_SK), for the 2020 season.[14]

### North Carolina FC

In March 2021, McGuire joined [North Carolina FC](/source/North_Carolina_FC) in [USL League One](/source/USL_League_One).[15]

### Miami FC

On January 26, 2022, McGuire joined USL Championship side [Miami FC](/source/Miami_FC).[16]

### North Carolina FC

McGuire returned to [North Carolina FC](/source/North_Carolina_FC) on in December 2023, ahead of the club's return to the USL Championship.[17]

### Sporting JAX

On January 22, 2026, [USL Championship](/source/USL_Championship) expansion club [Sporting Club Jacksonville](/source/Sporting_Club_Jacksonville), commonly known as Sporting JAX, announced McGuire had joined their inaugural roster.[18]

## International career

McGuire was a member of the [United States under-17 national team](/source/United_States_men's_national_under-17_soccer_team) with its residency program from 2010 to 2011 in Bradenton, FL.[19][20] McGuire was a member of the [United States under-20 national team](/source/United_States_men's_national_under-20_soccer_team) in 2012.[19]
