**Jake Herbert** (born March 6, 1985) is an American [folkstyle](/source/Collegiate_wrestling) and [freestyle](/source/Freestyle_wrestling) [wrestler](/source/Wrestling). Herbert won the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials at 84 kg FS and competed in the [2012 Olympics](/source/2012_Olympics).[1]

## High school

Born in [Pittsburgh](/source/Pittsburgh), Herbert attended [North Allegheny High School](/source/North_Allegheny_High_School) in [Wexford, Pennsylvania](/source/Wexford%2C_Pennsylvania), where he was a [PIAA](/source/Pennsylvania_Interscholastic_Athletic_Association) Class AAA state champion and four-time state placer.[2][3]

## College

Herbert was a two-time [NCAA](/source/NCAA) champion, three-time [Big Ten Conference](/source/Big_Ten_Conference) champion, and four-time NCAA [All-American](/source/All-American). He went 149-4 while at [Northwestern University](/source/Northwestern_University).[4][5] He won the 2009 [Dan Hodge Trophy](/source/Dan_Hodge_Trophy) awarded to the best college wrestler in the nation[3] and the 2009 [Big Ten Athlete of the Year](/source/Big_Ten_Athlete_of_the_Year) award.

## International

Herbert won a silver medal at the [2009 World Wrestling Championships](/source/2009_World_Wrestling_Championships) at [84kg FS](/source/2009_World_Wrestling_Championships_%E2%80%93_Men's_freestyle_84_kg) competed at the [2010 World Wrestling Championships](/source/2010_World_Wrestling_Championships) at [84kg FS](/source/2010_World_Wrestling_Championships_%E2%80%93_Men's_freestyle_84_kg).[6]

Herbert defeated [Travis Paulson](/source/Travis_Paulson) 2 to 1 at the finals of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials.[7]

Herbert currently works with [Andy Hrovat](/source/Andy_Hrovat), who represented the United States at 84 kg FS in the [2008 Olympics](/source/2008_Olympics).[8]

Herbert came very close to obtaining a medal in the [2012 Olympics](/source/2012_Olympics), but missed the opportunity due to a controversial referee's call.[9]

## Personal life

He is the cousin of singer [Josh Herbert](/source/Josh_Herbert_(singer)). Jake has two daughters and a wife[10]
