# Jacob Slater

**Jacob Vaughan Slater** (born 5 October 2004) is an Irish [footballer](/source/Association_football) who plays as a [left-back](/source/Defender_(association_football)#Full-back) for club [Brighton & Hove Albion](/source/Brighton_%26_Hove_Albion_F.C.).

## Career

### Preston North End

Slater joined the [Preston North End](/source/Preston_North_End_F.C.) academy at under-12s level, signing a scholarship in June 2021.[4]

On 9 August 2022, Slater made his professional debut in a 4–1 [EFL Cup](/source/EFL_Cup) victory over [Huddersfield Town](/source/Huddersfield_Town_A.F.C.).[5] Having continued to be involved with the first-team squad, he was rewarded with a first professional two-year contract in September 2022.[6]

### Brighton & Hove Albion

On 29 July 2023, Slater signed for the [youth academy](/source/Brighton_%26_Hove_Albion_F.C._Under-21s_and_Academy) of [Premier League](/source/Premier_League) club [Brighton & Hove Albion](/source/Brighton_%26_Hove_Albion_F.C.) on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.[7][8]

#### Harrogate Town loan

On 1 September 2025, Slater joined [League Two](/source/EFL_League_Two) club [Harrogate Town](/source/Harrogate_Town_A.F.C.) on a season-long loan deal.[9] He made his debut in a 2–0 victory over [Shrewsbury Town](/source/Shrewsbury_Town_F.C.) on 20 September in a performance labelled as "immense" by manager [Simon Weaver](/source/Simon_Weaver).[10]
