# Jacob Schrot

**Jacob Schrot** (born 30 June 1990 in [Brandenburg an der Havel](/source/Brandenburg_an_der_Havel)) is a German civil servant who served as [chief of staff](/source/Federal_Chancellery_of_Germany) to chancellor [Friedrich Merz](/source/Friedrich_Merz) from 2025 to 2026.[1] He concurrently served as chief of staff of the [Federal Security Council](/source/Federal_Security_Council_(Germany)) from 2025 to 2026.[2] From 2022 to 2025, he served as chief of staff to Merz as [leader of the opposition](/source/Leader_of_the_Opposition_(Germany)).[3] During the [2021 federal election](/source/2021_German_federal_election), he served as advisor to [Armin Laschet](/source/Armin_Laschet).[4] He previously served as chief of staff to [Stephan Harbarth](/source/Stephan_Harbarth) and worked for [Jan Hecker](/source/Jan_Hecker).[5] While staying in the [United States](/source/United_States), he worked for [Eliot Engel](/source/Eliot_Engel) and the [German Marshall Fund](/source/German_Marshall_Fund), and served as president of the [Federation of German-American Clubs](/source/Federation_of_German-American_Clubs).[6] In 2009, he won the political talent show *[Ich kann Kanzler!](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ich_kann_Kanzler!)*, broadcast on [ZDF](/source/ZDF).[7]
