Addison was born in Baltimore on September 14, 1962. She graduated from [Paul Laurence Dunbar High School](/source/Paul_Laurence_Dunbar_High_School_(Maryland)), afterwards attending [Sojourner–Douglass College](/source/Sojourner%E2%80%93Douglass_College), where she got a degree in early childhood education.<ref name="msa"/>
